You do not have to host with us, as we can upload your website to whichever host you wish. However, there are certain benefits that will only be found by hosting through SmartSite.com!

- We by no means require you to host with us. If you decide to host elsewhere, we will require a few items from you to ensure that we can get your website online:
- FTP Information - We will need a user name and password so that we can access your server and upload your files.
- Server Type - We HIGHLY recommend purchasing hosting on a Windows server (rather than Linux/Unix). The reason for this is that you may request a contact form or other dynamic add-on to your site. Our programming is done in a language called .ASP. Windows servers support this language. Note that this is not a concern for basic web pages that are created in .HTML language (your Smart Site is created in .HTML).
Non-Techie Definition: Hosting = An internet server will store your files so that your website is available to be viewed online. All websites require website hosting of some form or another. Hosting fees can be considered 'rent' for the space that your website occupies.
